NEET Counselling: Common mistakes To Avoid
The preparation during the NEET phase takes a mental toll on the students. But it is very important to keep the mind calm and composed and fill up the counselling form and details carefully. After the NEET results are declared, the next step is the counselling process. Any mistake during the filling up of the form and details of the student might cost a hefty problem. There are certain procedures that need to be followed while filling the details during the counselling rounds. In the NEET Counselling process, all the students who are eligible and have passed during the exam can apply for the counselling process.
The Whole Counselling process is divided into 3 rounds:
1. First Round
2. Second Round
3. Third mop-up round
The first two rounds take place one after the other and the third mop-up round takes place only after ensuring that seats are left vacant after the first two rounds. We all know that the whole counselling is divided into two types:
● All India Level Counselling:
In this type of counseling, approximately 15% of seats are reserved from all the government medical colleges of India, all central government medical colleges, and all deemed universities. This counselling is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Sciences (DGHS) on behalf of the MCC (Medical Counselling Committee).
● State Level Counselling:
State quota has a reservation of 85% seats for the students in the respective states and the remaining 15% seats are for the students on AIR basis. It is conducted by the respective states.
Note: DGHS conducts two rounds for the counselling on the basis of AIR, and in case if some seats are still vacant, then those are transferred to the other states and deemed medical universities. Then these universities conduct the mop-up round and fill up the remaining seats.
● First things first, you have to register yourself and apply for the state and all India counselling. Then you will be given to fill up some choices based on your marks and ranks, and then you have to proceed for document verification. After filling up the choice, lock it, and then wait for the result.
● If you are not selected or you are not happy with the options given, then you have to wait for the mop up round and get your desired college. If you want to upgrade your allotted college, make sure to save your first allotted college and then upgrade it. If you are lucky and get an upgrade, you can go to your upgraded college. Therefore, it is very important to follow up for the proper counselling process and pay full attention to it. Any mistakes during this time, might lead you to lose a seat in your dream medical college.
Read on to more to know what kind of mistakes to avoid during the counselling process:
● If the counselling is held online, then it's a cakewalk for the students. You get a complete guideline and step-by-step approach on how to fill up the form and the details. But if the counselling is held online, there are many mistakes that students can make while in a hurry. Some of the most common mistakes are mentioned below:
1. Make sure to check the previous year’s cutoffs:
One of the major mistakes is not checking the previous year’s cutoffs. Make sure to be aware of the All-India Quota and the State Quota cutoffs so that you can predict and guess which colleges will be shown to you and given to you to select.
2. Keep a check on the website and save the date when the counselling starts:
Make sure to read the instructions mentioned on the official website and check the approximate dates when the counselling will start. Therefore, ensure that you have enough time to prepare yourself with all the documents.
3. Last day might not be a good option:
It can happen that you might be stuck with some work and you want to fill the form on the last day of the counselling. Avoid this. Complete the online filing submissions one or two days prior to the last date to avoid website or server complications.
4. Keep an eye on the previous year's notices:
You can check the earlier year notices to get an idea of what kind of documents you need to be ready with. Sometimes some medical colleges can demand something unique like the 11th half yearly result.
5. Maintain the documents in a proper way:
Make sure that the original document is safe and be ready with 5-10 photocopies of every document. The colleges might demand the original one or the photocopies so it's better to keep both with you.
6. Quota reservation:
If there is any specific quota to which you belong, keep the respective quota specific documents ready.
7. Don't hurry:
While selecting the courses, don't hurry. Avoid making common mistakes during the counselling filling up form process. If you select BHMS instead of BDS, then there might be some legal procedures to be followed to rectify your mistake.
8. Don't pressurise yourself:
Avoid taking unnecessary pressure and leave any kind of tension or fear. Counselling is a difficult and a whole new process for every student and just make sure that you are well acquainted with all the mentioned documents and results.
Conclusion:
NEET Counselling is a tedious process and it surely gives a headache not only to the students, but also to their parents. One mistake will not only cause him/her to lose a year, but also, will shatter the confidence and courage of the student. Pay your full attention while doing this counselling process and feel free to ask for help from any seniors you know or anyone who can help regarding the matter.
